The “Campidoglio” or “Capitol” since the ancient times was a neuralgic place for town life, first sacred place and then place of power, it is at present the Town-Hall seat. To reach it you have to go up the nice stairs designed by Michelangiolo, once you are on top you find one of the most wonderful architectonic spaces that the whole story can offer. The square has a trapezoidal shape and it is a space unique all over the world; on the right, in the “ Palazzo dei Conservatori” you can find the hall where weddings are celebrated, that is the socalled “Sala Rossa” or “Red Hall”. Weddings are celebrated only on Saturdays and Sundays. Splendid Roman panoramas are on its background, above all by going down the Square through the “Via dell'Arco di Settimio” from where you can see the whole Roman Forum. |
